ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Anca. This is me on the left, in front of the Palms casino in Vegas.
I just turned 23, and have been living in Vegas for almost 2 years. Actually, I’ve been living in America for two years only. I’m originally from Romania, where I lived all my life before coming here 2 years ago, when I was 21. My life there was pretty uneventful, doing nothing but concentrating on school. I was very excited about the big change in my life, coming to Vegas by myself, living by myself, getting a job, making it by myself. It is a great adventure, and I’m still trying to discover this new me, and what my American dream consists of.
I have always been passionate about computers, spending lots of time using my PC for all sorts of things: games, programming (nothing fancy, just that my major was computer science, and had to do a lot of Turbo Pascal - not C++ - I know, nobody uses Pascal anymore!, FoxPro, Word etc.), the Internet - which was my favorite part about it! I’ve recently discovered blogging, and I thought it’s a great idea, there are so many good blogs out there that you can really learn something new every day. So, I’ve decided to make my own blog, and I love love love it!
Right now I’m a cocktail waitress in Vegas, I’ve been doing it for some time, and like it. I had no idea what to do when I started, but, obviously, it’s not rocket science! It’s not as easy as it seems either. You really have to be on top of things all the time, and a bit of a Jack of all trades. For me, it meant having to acquire a bit of “acting” skills, as my personality is not quite fitted for a cocktail waitress. I’m more secluded, quiet, and don’t like crowds or talking to strangers. I guess I’m not a people’s person, at least in real life. So for this job, I just pretend I’m playing in a soap opera, the part of a happy, cheerful cocktail waitress
The physical work is hard though, you have to stand and walk for 8 hours a day, caring hundreds of heavy drinks on your tray. As I said, I’m still looking to fulfill my American dream!
I’m a very stubborn Capricorn, I love Italian food (my dad’s part of the family is Italian), my dream once has been to join Green Peace, I’m into recycling, protecting the environment, using organic products, and hate big marketing gurus that play with your mind and do mass production of things labeled “natural, healthy, good for you” that have cancer ingredients listed on the back.
One of the reasons I love blogging is that it’s a good way to put your personal thoughts out there, for the world to see, it really gives a voice to the so far anonymous consumer. Bloggers are (most of them) individuals with strong personal opinions that they stick to, blogging creates a healthy environment, truly American in concept, where everybody’s equal. No longer can the marketing gurus and mega-corporations tell you the “truth” from their point of view. For every commercial you see that says McDonalds is good for you, healthy, and everybody eats there, you’ll see a real person blogging about how dangerous fast food is for you, and the benefits of eating fresh. This fairness is what got me to not display Google Ads on my pages, ads I have no control over, that might advertise something I don’t agree with. I plan to advertise on this blog in the future for things I choose to support.
When something else interesting about me comes to mind, I will post it here
Until then, enjoy my blog and write to me! I want to read your opinions.

Well…they do in Romania
They’re about 20 years behind…I know, it sucked!

I used to love writing in that. I moved to VB5 and VB6 and then got bored with messing about in it when VB.NET appeared. These days I look at source code for apps I wrote and it is all greek to me!

I know that if I had pursed a college in Programming there, I would have mostly learned C++. That’s what they teach after Pascal. Anyway, never really liked Pascal, I’m way more excited about CSS now! I wish I knew how to built web pages

Hi Anca, I’m from Romania, too. Good luck with your blogging.
Am vazut ca ai comentat pe Natespost, erai prima la Top Commentators si mi s-a parut ciudat numele Anca. Am zis ca sigur esti romanca. Si am avut dreptate. Succes la invatat CSS.

Great blog and great profile Anca. I’m a stubborn Capricorn too. I went to Las Vegas for the first time ever this year (2008) and I plan to go back at least once a year now. I love it there. I wish you lots of luck with all your endeavors.

Thank you so much, Paula. I’m glad you liked Las Vegas. And I have a contest going on every month, it doesn’t have a lot of publicity so far, but if you write a short story about your time in Vegas, anything at all, with or without pictures, and you win at the end of the month I will put up an add of your blog on the sidebar, for a month.
